Liposuction is a viable cosmetic surgery option to improve the appearance of areas with concentrated amounts of visible fat. Through a vacuum-like process, excess fat deposits are removed, creating a slimmer, smoother, more attractive body contour.
Laser assisted lipolisis was first developed in Italy and has since evolved to become an effective treatment in addressing primary concerns. With its newer technology, a greater amount of fat can be removed with less bruising and swelling.
The introduction of laser technology in the liposuction process minimizes bruising and swelling, significantly reducing postoperative discomfort, and promoting a rapid healing of the treated area. Laser-assisted liposuction also delivers more precise and aesthetically pleasing results.
Is liposuction right for you?
Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have unflattering curves due to localized fat deposits. Even in people who eat a healthy diet and stay physically fit, unsightly fat deposits may persist as a result of genetic factors, body chemistry, and other causes.
The best candidates for liposuction are people with localized, exercise-resistant fatty deposits in the abdomen, arms, thighs, and neck. They should ideally be physically fit and exercise regularly. People who are very overweight or who have large areas of fat deposits are advised to lose weight first and reduce the fatty area through diet or exercise before undergoing liposuction.
Dr. Lanfranchi works with a team of nutritionists who will advise you on how to incorporate a healthier approach to eating and living to improve you lifestyle
Common target areas for liposuction include:
– Hips and buttocks
– Abdomen and waist
– Upper arms
– Inner knee
– Chest area
– Cheeks, chin and neck
– Calves and ankles
Laser assisted lipolisis is performed by making small, incisions in strategic places around the target area, a solution is then infiltrated in the area to be treated and the laser fiber measuring 1 millimeter in diameter is then softly moved through the area to melt the fat which is then gently removed.
The Fotona laser system for laser lipolisis produces selective destruction of fat cells while it coagulates all the small blood vessels surrounding it reducing bleeding and swelling to a minimum
Where once other forms of liposuction left skin hanging in its wake, laser assisted liposuction tightens the skin in the treated area by inducing the production of new collagen.
What to Expect after Treatment
After surgery, the incisions are left open for some time to allow fluids and leftover fat to empty. An elastic garment is used to compress tissue and help in its contraction process.
Laser treatment keeps post-operative bruising and swelling to a minimum, so the majority of patients are able return to their normal activities within one day if only one area was treated or two to three days if two or more areas were treated.
The very high majority of our patients are back to their normal activities within one or two days.
As with any other surgical procedure, liposuction has accompanying risks. During consultation, Dr. Lanfranchi will explain in detail all possible risks associated with liposuction.
