Lipofilling

Lipofilling is a surgical cosmetic procedure that enhances facial or body features by harvesting surplus fat cells from one part of the body (abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere) and implanting these where needed.

It is most often used to fill in hollowed cheeks or laugh lines between the nose and mouth, correct skin depressions or indentations, minimize forehead wrinkles, enhance and enlarge the lips, rejuvenate aging hands, and even increase the buttocks size.

Is Lipofilling right for you?
Lipofilling is a good option for patients who desire permanent, yet natural-looking results. Since the fat is autologous (meaning it is your own), it has the ability to age and change with you.

The Lipofill treatment may be used for a variety of purposes:

The Procedure
Lipofilling is a two-part procedure. A local anesthetic is administered during the harvest and transplant phases.

The first phase involves extracting fat from a donor site that has the most lipogenic (fat storing) activity. These areas are typically the lower back, outer thighs, abdomen, knee. The fat is extracted using a small hollow tube called a cannula and suctioned out of the body.

Afterwards, the fat is reintroduced into the body via an injection into the target area using a blunt tip cannula. The surgeon then uses his thumb and index finger to sculpt or shape the treated area.

Side effects are fairly uncommon, and results can be seen within 1 to 2 days after the newly transplanted fat settles in place. Lipofill treatments are expected to last 3 to 5 years or even longer.
